View Your Alnet Security Camera System on your Mac
Those with Alnet® PC-Based DVR Cards and Netstation NVR Software have another reason to rejoice today, as Alnet has finally released their first BETA client software for Mac. This new CMS4 software is a preview of the newest features and sexy user interface that our clients should look forward to seeing when the new NET Professional software is released. Not only does this software allow you to view your security cameras from anywhere, but it also incorporates many of the features of our Alnet Windows-based CMS software. This Mac software lets you connect to view multiple cameras and even multiple servers simultaneously, so that you can view multi-locations and multi-franchises at once.
The new sliding menus, and drag and drop interface lets you create and save layouts with ease, using more of the screen for viewing your cameras, and less for menus. This new layout has been long in the coming, but thankfully does not lose the useful feature of preview mode, which allows you to use your computer for other purposes, while still watching your cameras. Another new addition to the software was true multi-monitor support, allowing you to send layouts to each connected monitor at will, or use a single monitor for a live view and another for playback if desired.
Playback has also been revamped, now permitting playback from multiple servers simultaneously. This new feature lets you sync up video from all different servers at once, so that you can see what is happening at home and office at once, or any other multiple locations. The slide-away time bar highlights the easy playback that Alnet customers have come to expect, and accommodates both traditional cameras and newer high definition IP cameras as well.
While the software is still in BETA release, we hope that the Alnet software team will add even a few more features in for the final release. Download the latest Alnet Mac CMS Client software
All of us are plagued with memory loss as we continue to age. I have personally come to accept this as a matter of fact. As my memory continues to fade, I am able to supplement the information I still retain though with added information supplied by my security cameras. Each day I find new uses for it, from finding where I put my keys to where I lost virtually anything. While it still bites me that I can’t remember these things as clearly as I was able to in years past, it removes some of the sting when I can still resume my normal day-to-day operations after locating my lost items.
When Playback of your video is easy, it opens many other uses for your system.
One such even occurred just last night. Most men will understand the importance of the right tool for the job. I was installing a wood floor, and the transition pieces required a metal strip, which of course had to be cut to fit. After searching in vain for several minutes for the correct tool (my Snap-On® Side cutters), I finally gave up and tried using 2 other pairs of side cutters that were in the correct location in the tool box. No good, instead they just began to mangle the metal. Back to finding the best tool I guess. I knew where it was the last time I remember using it, which was just last month, so let’s go back in the video archives before my mind starts to wander and accuse potential thieves. 2 minutes later, I found the side cutters in the archive from last month, and it took about another minute to chase the video forward and find out where I used them next. Sure enough I grabbed them and brought them into another room to cut some cable ties, and because it was an emergency operation (failed network firewall that needed an emergency rebuild at 3AM), I neglected to return them to the box. With the right tools in hand, I was able to complete my job with minimal downtime.
This is why I cannot stress enough to our clients, the importance of a security camera system that has an intuitive playback capability like the Alnet® system that we employ for most of our large jobs. When you can find video quickly and zoom through the course of a month within seconds, it opens up a lot more benefit to your security cameras, allowing you to quickly and easily find video without spending your entire day. I wouldn’t have even bothered trying this with a lesser security camera system, because I could have and would have wasted my entire day. When selecting a system, ask someone who knows, because it really can mean the difference between a useful, functional system, and one that doesn’t even provide the bare minimum.
